Hannah Nevels almost always goes by Anna - don't try calling her by her real name. It doesn't work. Ever. The only person who gets away with Hannah is her mother, which is part of the reason she doesn't like being called that by her friends; it reminds her of the person who's hardly there for her.
As for the rest of her, Anna is a simple girl with simple needs. Her only main issue is her habit of lying to everyone she knows - something she can't seem to control one way or the other. Like her mother suggests, it's a defense mechanism in order for others to not know the real her, even if the real her is better than the fake Anna she's created; she's afraid of being rejected, just as she was when she was younger.

FRIENDS . FRIENDS . FRIENDS . FRIENDS . FRIENDS
Anna only seems to have those childhood friends - the ones that have been with her through thick and thin, as well as have put up with all her lies and know about all her inner issues. They don't judge her, which is why she keeps them; another reason why she's afraid of making new friends: judgement. So she settles on the few friends she already has, refusing to broaden her horizons by meeting new people. After all, why meet new ones when she can keep the old?
LOVERS . LOVERS . LOVERS . LOVERS . LOVERS
Anna has never had a boyfriend. Not a date, not a kiss; never even been asked out. Why? Because it's a small town, and all the boys already know her problem with lying. They don't want to deal with her, so she doesn't want to deal with them. In order for her to open up to possible love, she'll need someone the complete opposite of her: honest. She'll need to see the honest side of things and be able to see the truth to her lies in order to find what she's been looking for.
ENEMIES . ENEMIES . ENEMIES . ENEMIES . ENEMIES
Honest people are Anna's worst nightmare, hence why she avoids them like the plague. These people tend to find Anna, though, and try to rid her of her lying ways, only causing her to lie more and say she will when they both know she won't. Not that she won't - she can't.
